Scouts Enjoy Sub Aqua Adventure

scuba_1When the opportunity came up to try scuba diving in a heated indoor swimming pool, the members of the 16th Norwich Scout troop jumped at the chance.

During the evening of Friday 26th November 2010, 16 Scouts attended the Scuba Diving session in Taverham. After the Scouts were given a short introduction to the sport, they were divided up in pairs and kitted out with a mask, oxygen cylinder & flippers.

After running through the basics of wearing the equipment, each scout sat on the bottom of the pool with the instructor to make sure that their mask hadn't steamed up and that they we happy with breathing through the regulator underwater.

The scouts then swam the length of the 15m pool to the 2.3m deep end where they tried to perfect the skills they had learnt. After swimming back to the shallow end again it was time for the next scout to have a go.

None of the Scouts had done scuba diving in the past, with a few trying snorkelling while on holiday.

Everyone had a great time and said that they would definitely try scuba diving again.

Further photos from the scuba diving can be seen in the Photo Gallery.
