About the Leaders
Phil Debenham (Explorer Scout Leader)
I began helping with the Scout section in 2006 in my spare time when not away studying at college. I fully joined the group in early 2008, first as a Troop helper, then when the opportunity arose It took on the role of Explorer Scout Leader. As the Explorer Unit was newly setup we have run some linking evenings with the Scout Sections at both the 16th and 27th Norwich to recruit members.
My ambition is to continue building the Explorer Unit to be as successful as some of the other units within the district and to encourage the older Scouts to move up to Explorers rather than leaving the association.
Explorers have the opportunity to work towards their Duke of Edinburgh Award (DofE), a section of which requires giving up spare time to help out voluntarily with another group. As part of this, we encourage the Explorers to work toward the Young Leader Scheme. This allows them to help out with one of the other Scouting Sections proving that they have been away from that particular section for at least 6 months. By being involved with this, the Explorers learn key life skills such as leadership, organisation and management.
During my free time, I enjoy my Land Rover and clay pigeon shooting.
