I've been involved with the group since 2009, I was volunteered to join the executive committee by my wife during the AGM in 2009. I have 2 boys, one is in the Beavers and the other is desperate to get old enough to join. I regularly help with the Cub Pack on a Tuesday evening. Since becoming involved, I have enjoyed being with the 16th and the people who dedicate their spare time to providing fun and excitement for the young people.
We have an excellent location in Costessey, with huge potential to provide even more activities which will benefit, not only the children, but the whole community. We have a lot of new faces helping with the group and on the committee and there is a real enthusiasm to move forward., so if you want to get involved, in any capacity, then please come along and join us, I promise you won't feel like the new boy / new girl on the team.

Brian Freeman
At the age of eight I joined the 27th Norwich as a Wolf Cub, and then went on to be a Scout in the same group. Later, in 1952, myself and fellow scouter Trevor Orford, became warranted Assistant Scout Leaders with 1st Rackheath and Salhouse Scout Group in the Broadland District. I was also helping to run the Costessey Methodist Youth Club at the time. In 1967 I married Pauline and we moved to Borrowdale Drive where we were assistant leaders at the Thorpe St Andrews School Youth Club. Later my job took me to work and live in Oulton Broad. Whilst we were there I became involved and trained as a youth worker and worked part time at the Peto Coffee Bar. This was a young people's club mainly for the fisher boys and youngsters involved with drugs.
In 1983 Neil, my oldest son, decided to become a Cub Scout at the 16th Norwich. Just over a year later Pauline started the Beaver Scout Colony and Ian, my younger son became one of the first official Beaver Scouts, previous to this time beavers were not recognised by the Scout Association. It did not take long for me to get involved, so I became a Cub Scout Leader and this led on to Group Scout Leader. In 2000 I left the group and became involved with the Norwich North district as a District Scouter for Cubs, then Assistant District Commissioner for Development, and still involved as District Scouter with what is Northern Norwich. I am proud to still be associated with the Group.

I joined the 16th in 1999, and took on the Secretary's role shortly afterwards. My husband actively supports the Scout and Explorer Sections and both of our children have enjoyed the activities and opportunities provided by the Sections at the 16th; Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and now through the new Explorer Section. One of my main aims for the 16th is to continue to provide an interesting and challenging range of activities for the children which will provide them with life skills and happy memories.
My interests outside of Scouting are spending time with family and friends, music, especially watching live bands, and watching and playing golf.

Group Scout Leader
John Pettifer
I joined the Scouting movement as a Cub Scout with the 2nd Hellesdon, and then progressed through Scouts at the 20th Norwich and finally through Ventures Scouts with various different units. In 1990 I followed my roots back to the 20th Norwich and became a Assistant Scout Leader, and after about 3 years I progressed on to the Scout Leader role. In 1991 I was awarded my Queens Scout Award as well as my DofE Gold Award.
I am a member of the Northern Norwich Scout Active Support Unit which support district and group based activities. I am a Divisional Officer with the St John Ambulance, I hold the GNAS qualification in Archery and also my rifle shooting certificate.
After being involved with a number of groups, the position of Group Scout Leader (GSL) became available at the 16th Norwich, after talking to a number of people at district level I saw this as an opportunity to develop the group by supporting the leaders and the Exec Committee. I aim to increase recruitment in all area, to strengthen the list of activities which we can offer to the young people and to improve the site overall.

Peter Woodyard
Myself and my wife Roz both became involved with the group in 1988 when our eldest son Samuel joined Beavers. We both did stints on the rota, myself more than Roz because of 1 older and 3 younger siblings. Patrick joined Beavers in 1994, followed by Dominic in 1998. I help out where I can with the Scout Group functions and Beaver trips.
